SG Flyer (090313)

Sorry for the late post, but lots of pictures coming right up!

As stated in the title, Yanjun decided to give me a surprise by inviting me at having a go at the Singapore Flyer, as part of our 2nd year anniversary. Okay.. I am not afraid to admit that its my first time taking the Flyer hahahahaha!

The picturesque views from the cabin!

The above two pictures showcase the high-rise buildings that Singapore have, a similar situation as in Hong Kong. A scene that makes me feel that we are living in a city that is overpopulated.

I like this picture best. Don't you feel that it emphasis the fact that Singapore is a clean & green city?

Dining in the cabin. Something which ought to be tried!

The roads being prepared for the F1 Night Race held in September!

The overpopulated road leading to Marina Bay Sands (MBS), due to the quarterly IT Show.

Each round lasted about 30minutes, and before you enter the cabin for the ride, you will pass through an interactive room where it showcases the Flyer being built from scratch. Patrons can engage themselves answering the quizzes and taking pictures inside.

Famished after the ride, dinner was dimsum! We went to Marina Square for the dimsum dinner, the shop name also known as 包今天,Bao Today (#02-234 to 236). It sure was crowded but luckily, we didn't wait very long to get a table.

Yes, that's me. I can't wait to indulge myself in the food, while Yanjun is busy taking pictures.

Tried the current in-thing now, the custard bun.

The total bill came out to be close to $40, not exactly expensive and considering that we were quite full after dinner. I would strongly recommend the custard bun, chicken feet, paper wrapped chicken and their chee cheong fun.

Last but not least, I will be off to Genting & Tanjung Pinang over the next few days! Shall post more when I am back! Enjoy reading and takecare guys! (:

1D Batam Getaway 2013 (020313)

Apparently, Yanjun and I planned this trip two weeks in advance. Before I dont have much time in the near future, we quickly spent some time together going on a short getaway from the shores of Singapore.

View from our ferry, Batam Fast @ 0930.

Upon reaching Batam Centre, most of the shops in the shopping mall linked via the overhead bridge weren't even opened. We spent about about 30 minutes walking along the empty corridors of the shopping mall. What greeted us was just a few shops opening up for the day. Browsed through some of these shops, and bought a couple of accessories for Yanjun, a few items from the supermarket (megamart), while having our breakfast at the A&W on the ground floor.

Ordered the two-piece chicken meal, added with a regular curly fries after quite some time of miscommunication... However, this A&W at the shopping mall wasn't equipped with the root beer float machine! And it seems like the machine wasn't working for a long time. Quite disappointed, yet angry for not being able to try their trademark drink. It's no wonder why I just see a couple of customers walk-in throughout my entire breakfast duration there.

Before proceeding to our next destination, we tried the local Baskin Robbins Ice-cream, and I swear it was delicious. It's much cheaper as compared to Singapore, and it definitely taste as good!

Straight afterwards, we took the cab to Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre, the biggest mall in Batam (if I am not wrong). The first thing we did after we arrived was to spend 90 minutes massaging. The rates were cheap, S$22 for 90 minutes (excluding local tax).

I believe we are not supposed to consume food immediately after our massage, hence, we did a short walk in the shopping mall before having our lunch.

Lunch was at Ayam Penyet Ria, a store name which is practically known in KL, Indonesia and Singapore. We shared a serving of Ayam Penyet with their rendition of Avocado Juice. Dessert was the local chendol, bought from one of those standalone push carts in the mall. Priced at RP$10,000 which was about S$1.30, it was quite a huge serving and tasted a little too sweet. However, I feel that there were too much coconut milk in it, which makes those wary of their weight to eat less!

Shopped around for local goods, clothing, accessories before we proceeded for our dinner.  We browsed several outlets, buying some clothing, accessories, shoes, including the famous locally made Kueh Lapis back to Singapore.

The place for dinner was similar to my previous post (titled Batam 2012), except it's a sister restaurant. Golden Prawn 933 is located just beside the Golden Prawn 555 restaurant. Both operates on the same concept and overlook a fishing pond. Taking a cab there from Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre costs about RP$60,000 similar to S$7.90.

At both Golden Prawn restaurants, you can select your seafood, fresh off their ponds situated at the restaurant entrance itself. We ordered Gong-Gong, Salted Egg Crab, Fried Calamari, Sambal Kangkong and a large coconut to share among the two of us. Total cost of the meal is approx. S$40.

After dinner, it was straight to rush back to Batam Centre for our ferry back to Singapore. Reached Singapore at about 9PM local time. Total money spent was S$240!

Dinner @ 85 Fengshan Food Centre (070313)

A kinda last-minute decided dinner at 85 Fengshan Food Centre with Yanjun. Many Singaporeans would have know of this hawker centre, which is rather well-known in the East. Famous food include, BBQ seafood, Chicken Wings, Bak Chor Mee, Fried Oyster Egg, Sugarcane Juice, Fried Kway Teow, and lots more!

Undergoing about 11 months of renovation, it unveiled its new look at the start of the year. Surprisingly, the layout of the stalls did not change much, unlike Changi Village Hawker Centre, which was given a major refurbishment and the stalls arrangement wasn't like before anymore. Anyway, Yanjun and I decided to visit 85 Fengshan Food Centre at about 4PM, much satisfying my cravings and as a pre-celebration for our 2nd year anniversary.

Yanjun, being the early bird this time round, had to wait for me, and since I was late, I had to source and order the dishes. Moreover, I was a regular patron in the past, considering that it was her first time here.

We started off by ordering the famous Bak Chor Mee (soup) and pork porridge for myself. The taste did not change a single bit, and I am still awed by the taste of the soup with the soft, yet chewy minced meat.

Side dishes include the Fried Oyster, Chicken Wings, and Satay (chicken & pork). Nothing much to be said about, common dishes which can be found in many hawker centres. However, that's not all!

Our last dish for the dinner (boiled cockles) arrived late, while we were already groaning about our full stomachs. Left with quite a number of them behind as we were too full to even out anything into our mouths.

An enjoyable dinner spent at 85 Fengshan Food Centre. Spent about S$11 per pax and it was quite a fill! Oh yes, definitely returning soon!

Saturday Jetty Fishing @ Pulau Ubin (230213)

Following my addiction for fishing, my coursemate and I decided to meet up for a fishing trip at Pulau Ubin. Didnt tried fishing at the jetty before, and I was rather shocked that there're quite a number of anglers congregating around there.

Oh well, didn't really manage to catch alot, and the sizes was only about palm size. However, I was rather surprised that one of the anglers landed an approximately 600~700 grams Barramundi. I have never saw such fish being caught in such shallow waters off the jetty. Did not took a picture of it, but I swear that I am gonna have a try at fishing that the next time I visit Pulau Ubin.

Some of the creatures caught.

(Leather Jacket - its name getting from the rough skin it has)

Grouper (a small one though)

Flower Crab

We ended off having lunch at one of the small seafood restaurants over 2 to 3 minutes walk from the jetty. For durian lovers, durian are in abundance there as well. (:
